Amy Tan

Amy Tan is an American author best known for her semi-autobiographical novels exploring themes of Chinese-American identity and mother-daughter relationships. Born in Oakland, California, in 1952, she earned a degree in English and linguistics from San Jose State University. Tan's literary debut, "The Joy Luck Club" (1989), became an instant bestseller and was later adapted into a film. Her other notable works include "The Kitchen God's Wife" (1991), "The Hundred Secret Senses" (1995), and "Saving Fish from Drowning" (2005). Her writing has garnered numerous awards, including the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Commonwealth Club Gold Medal, and the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction. Tan's work has been praised for its vivid characters, evocative prose, and exploration of complex cultural and familial dynamics.
