Alex Michaelides is a British-Cypriot novelist, screenwriter, and playwright. Born in Cyprus in 1977, he later studied English literature at Cambridge University and earned a PhD in philosophy from King's College London. Michaelides gained recognition in 2019 with his debut novel, "The Silent Patient," a psychological thriller that became an international bestseller. The novel won multiple awards, including the Goodreads Choice Award for Best Mystery & Thriller, and has been translated into over 40 languages. His second novel, "The Maidens," was released in 2021 and explores themes of academia, art, and obsession.
