Abir Mukherjee is an award-winning British-Indian author known for his historical crime fiction series set in 1920s Calcutta, India. Born in Scotland to Indian parents, Mukherjee grew up surrounded by stories of his ancestors' experiences in colonial India. After studying law and working as a human rights lawyer, Mukherjee turned to writing. His debut novel, "A Rising Man," featuring the enigmatic detective Captain Sam Wyndham and Sergeant Banerjee, was published in 2017 and received critical acclaim. The series has garnered numerous awards, including the Historical Dagger from the Crime Writers' Association in 2018.
